The Eagles of Philadelphia took a huge step this week, with an increased run game, and took down the Houston Texans down in Houston, 31-21. Starting quarterback Nick Foles again struggled with turnovers, throwing an interception which resulted in Houston running it back for a touchdown. At the end of the first quarter, Foles was sacked, and left the game with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder. On Monday, it was confirmed that Foles has a cracked clavicle. This is an injury that may take six to eight weeks to recover from, if not longer. Mark Sanchez took over for Foles, and will remain the starter for the foreseeable future. Sanchez fit right into Chip Kelly’s Offense, and helped bring the Eagles to a win. And with another Cowboys loss, it puts the Eagles back in first place in the NFC East. An even bigger loss on the day was in the form of DeMeco Ryans. Ryans intercepted Texans’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and as he started to run, went down, then fumbled the ball. What appeared to be an ankle injury was much worse, and a torn Achilles will now put Ryans on Injured Reserve the rest of the season. This is a significant loss for the Eagles Defense, not only from Ryans’ athletic ability on the field, which has been stellar, but from a leadership role. He’s the leader of that Defense, the person that pulls the team together, motivates, and inspires. We will have to see how Billy Davis adjusts the D to compensate for such a huge loss. The first thing they did is sign safety Chris Prosinski, a free agent safety who was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this year.
