Show Notes: Episode 47 for December 30th, 2008

Playoffs!?!? That’s right, the Philadelphia Eagles clinched the last NFC Wildcard spot by defeating, nay, crushing the Dallas Cowboys 44-6 at Lincoln Financial Field. In front of a frenzied crowd in South Philly, the Eagles took care of things in dominating fashion on both sides of the ball. Our Offense played tight, and our Defense caused five turnovers, two of which were returned for spectacular touchdowns. They didn’t let the Cowboys breathe the whole game, and embarrassed the team that most thought would easily take the NFC East this season. Instead the Cowboys flew back to Texas, and the Eagles are on their way to Minnesota to take on the Vikings in the NFC Wildcard Game.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles are in the Playoffs!
  • Eric and Chuck sold their tickets to the game, and feel like idiots
  • Andy Reid looked relaxed, happy and definitely appeared he knew something the Cowboys didn’t
  • Brian Dawkins was an animal and played out of his mind
  • Email from Alex, who called us out on last week’s show
  • Is it hard for teams to now prepare for our schizophrenic Offensive Scheme this season?
  • Andy Reid’s game plan definitely dictates the outcome of the game; if it’s good, the team is great, if bad, he can’t adjust and the team looks horrible
  • We were all big Oakland Raiders fans this week
  • Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell talked about the tie against Cincinnati and how Reid’s controversial call in that game actually saved our playoff hopes
  • Email from Aussie Eagle, who talks about how this game saved Reid for the team, which ultimately he’s not happy about
  • Eric is certain about the Eagles victory in Minnesota this week
  • We trash the Cowboys some more
  • Email from Phil in England, who praises the Eagles win, and wonders which team will show up against the Vikings
  • Email from Corey in Baltimore, with renewed enthusiasm
  • Aussie Mike writes in about the game, and us visiting Australia, which we would love to do
  • What we are doing this week for the Eagles-Vikings game
  • Great email from Thomas in El Paso, Texas
  • Email from Stephen in Melbourne, Australia who talks about the Sav Rocca Effect for Aussie Eagles fans, and Reid’s hopeful New Year’s Resolution: RUN THE BALL
  • Email from Jimmy Craichead in Philly, who found his youthful optimism and put Scrooge to sleep
  • An article on Monday by Minneapolis CBS Affiliate WCCO talked about how there were 20,000 seats still available for the Eagles-Vikings game, and the team is srambling to sell tickets so it is not locally blocked out… it’s unbelievable to us
  • Jerry Jones says Wade Philips is still the coach moving forward, and we wholeheartedly applaud his decision, and hope Wade stays for years to come

Thanks!

  • … to Thomas in Texas for this week’s Title suggestion
  • … to Fred for the customized new Cowboys Stadium paver image (anyone want to chip in?)
  • … to all of you for making all of this worth it. Here’s to a great 2009, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Show Notes: Episode 46 for December 23rd, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles lose to the Washington Redskins 10-3.  Despite the Playoff hopes increasing dramatically in a few of the other NFL games, this loss essentially knocks the Eagles out of contention.  The Eagles Offense failed to score a touchdown on a horrible outing plagued with inaccurate passing, dropped balls, unbalanced play calling and poor clock management.  After seeing three impressive wins, the Eagles fans have now turned against Head Coach Andy Reid with renewed vigor, and concensus is that his tenure in Philadelphia should come to an end.

What we discussed:

  • The Eagles loss to the Redskins is especially painful after two gifts in other games (Cowboys loss to Baltimore and the Buccaneers loss to the Chargers)
  • The blame game is back in full effect after that horrendous display on Offense
  • Some blame Donovan McNabb for his bad passing but most blame Andy Reid
  • Email from Holden in Louisiana blaming Reid
  • Email from Mitch in San Francisco with even more Reid impatience
  • What scenarios have to happen for the Eagles to make it into the playoffs
  • Email from Jason, talking clock management, Desean Jackson drops and play calling woes
  • We touch on the heartache of what this team has done
  • Email from Buz in South Jersey, who talks about many questions of “Why?”
  • Third down yardage contributed to the Offense struggles again this week
  • Voicemail from Jimmy Craichead in Philly, talking about how Reid must go and how far back his Philly team woes go
  • Email from Stephen in Melbourne, Australia

Show Notes: Episode 45 for Tuesday, December 16, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles win their third game in a row, defeating the Cleveland Browns 30-10 in Philadelphia on Monday Night Football.  With the warm December temperatures and late rains moving in, the Eagles finished off with Kevin Kolb at quarterback, but for a different reason this time.  Donovan McNabb had 290 yards passing and two touchdowns, and Coach Andy Reid decided to protect his starting QB.  Despite some mishaps in the game, the Eagles looked solid and defeated the struggling Browns like they should have.  Now with two games left in the season and a playoff spot on the line, the Eagles need to win their last two games of the season against the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys.  Besides that, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Atlanta Falcons have to lose a game.  The momentum is definitely on the green side, as the team has gelled into an efficient Offense and dominating Defense.  Our playoffs have already arrived in Philadelphia.

What we discussed:

  • Monday Night Football at Lincoln Financial Field
  • Some Fantasy Football talk as both Eric and Todd are in their respective playoffs
  • Brian Dawkins sets a franchise record with 181 games played… we so wished he had made an interception to set that record as well
  • The Browns coaches seemed to try to keep their QB Dorsey from passing the ball
  • Both Brian Dawkins and Asante Samuel have made it to the Pro Bowl
  • We have an email from Aussie Mike
  • We go into the last two weeks of the season, and talk about what the Eagles need to do, and what other teams need to do for us to hit that playoff spot
  • Voicemail from Paul out of Caffination
  • Stewart Bradley is definitely impressing us this season
  • The Andy Reid controversy continues
  • Eric feels the Cowboys game might be moved up to at least a 4:00 game with how much weight it may have
  • Kolb as the new franchise, or bust?  We briefly touch on it

Time to tell us what you think:

Show Notes: Episode 44 for Tuesday, December 9, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles march up the New Jersey Turnpike, then Brian Westbrook marches all over the New York Giants.  The men in Green take their new confidence and beat the Giants 20-14 in a game where our running game ruled and Eli Manning’s passes were dropped.  Despite the win, we try to find optimism as this was the Eagles dominant team that should be in the playoffs, not struggling (and hoping) to make a Wildcard spot.

What we discussed:

  • Brian Westbrook lit up the Giants, again, with 203 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns
  • B West looked amazing and Eric has a lt of stats to back it
  • We aren’t as excited as we normally should be, and we discuss why
  • The confidence in Andy Reid still is not there, as we’re not sure how he will handle the game plans for the remaining games
  • Email from Alex, who was psyched about the Eagles big win over the Giants
  • Email from Steve, who caught the game at the airport
  • There were three blocked Field Goals in this game, one returned for a Giants TD
  • Contest Winners announced for the DirecTV Eagles-branded remote controls… congrats to both Dave from California and Steve from San Francisco!!
  • We talked about the Plaxico Burress effect on the Giants team, or was there one?
  • Early Eagles playoff scenarios
  • The talk shifts to the Dallas Cowboys, and their impending demise

We found out about this after we recorded our show, but we want to send out big congratulations to Donovan McNabb and his wife Racquel on the birth of their twins, a boy and a girl.  This news comes thanks to Bleeding Green Nation. All our best goes out to Donovan and his family.

Show Notes: Episode 43 for Tuesday, December 2, 2008

We have a really good show this week as we enjoy leftover turkey and a great Eagles win in Philly over the Arizona Cardinals.  The Offense lit up the night at Lincoln Financial Field to the massive cheers of all in attendance.  Andy Reid went against his own game plans of late and went for a balanced Offense attack.  Our QB Donovan McNabb, as well as RB Brian Westbrook, looked great and controlled their drives the whole game and totaled six touchdowns.  The Defense also continued to do very well.  In all, despite recent games, there were very few negatives taken away from this game.  Also on this show, we talk to author Jeff Fekete, an Eagles fan who’s book titled Making the Big Game - Tales of an Accidental Spectator will be coming out next month.  We’re also having a contest where we are giving away two Eagles logo DirecTV remote controls!

What we discussed:

  • Philadelphia Eagles beat the Arizona Cardinals at The Linc 48-20
  • The balanced Offense looked amazing, relaxed and efficient
  • Max Jean-Gilles fractured his ankle and is now out for the season, and rehabilitation could take up to nine months
  • Brian Dawkins had an interception which tied the franchise record… can you say “Hall of Fame?”
  • Email from Susan, who was happy she was wrong about Reid and McNabb
  • Eric and Chuck talk to Jeff Fekete about his upcoming book, Making the Big Game
  • Contest announcement for a DirecTV Eagles remote control, details on our main site
  • We talk about the New York Giants game this Sunday
  • Giants WR Plaxico Burress shoots himself in the leg, is suspended by the Giants, and might go to jail
