The Philadelphia Eagles drop their second game of the season to the Arizona Cardinals 24-20 on the road.  The injured Offensive Line forced coach Chip Kelly to cut down on the running game severely, and quarterback Nick Foles attempted 62 passes on the day.  Foles also added another two interceptions on the season, both costly.  He is definitely struggling this season in big ways, and the concerns are that he is not fixing what is wrong from week to week.  On top of that, the Eagles secondary are giving up big plays every game, where they are getting beat, or not even putting up much of a defense when balls are incoming.  Regardless, the Eagles of Philly are 5-2 on the season, and second place in the NFC East as we approach the halfway point of the season.  The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Washington Redskins, which keeps the lead tight.  We’d be silly if we didn’t mention Jeremy Maclin’s standout performance this week, who caught 12 of Foles’ passes for an amazing 187 yards and two touchdowns.  A stellar performance.

Todd shares his experiences at the tailgate and then in the stadium itself this week, as he was there at the Eagles-Cardinals game.  He definitely wasn’t alone in green, as there were easily 10,000 other screaming Eagles fans at the game in the desert.  They were easily heard and seen on the TV coverage, and it made all of us proud.

This week the Eagles remain on the road, and head to Houston to take on the Texans.  On paper the Texans are the weaker team, and the Eagles get back a few players that have been out with injuries, most notably Darren Sproles and Jason Kelce.  It’s good to see Kelce getting back, but Todd Herremans’ torn biceps might limit his effectiveness, but if anyone can play through that pain, it’s Herremans.

The BYE week is upon us, and we all missed our Eagles playing this week.  The good thing about the BYE is that the team rested, and some of our injured players nursed their wounds another week without missing play time.  In their absence, though, the Dallas Cowboys won yet another game (against the New York Giants), going to 6-1 on the season, and shifting the Birds to second place in the NFC East.  This week we have both Tommy Lawlor and Steve Brown on with us to talk about the Eagles season to date, and how other teams in the league are lining up so far.

This week’s game against the Arizona Cardinals will be a very tough showing for Nick Foles, Shady McCoy, and the rest of the Offense, as the Cardinals have one of the better Defenses in the league.  The BYE week time off will rejuvenate the team, and if we get the running game established early, the Eagles Defense will keep the Cardinals’ Offense in check, and the Eagles will win the game down in Arizona.

We talk about a bit of the history of the Fly Eagles Fly fight song, and how it has become part of the heart of the Eagles team and fans everywhere.  Quarterbacks past and present, mobile and pocket, are also discussed and what seems to work and where they don’t.  It depends on the QB and his weapons, and it all factors in.

So, the New York Giants travel down the New Jersey Turnpike after a week of talking trash about the Eagles, come into Lincoln Financial Field and stomp on our Eagles logo…. then absolutely get whomped by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football in front of a national audience.  The Eagles, all in black, shut out the Giants, 27-0.  The last time an Eagles team shut out an opponent was 18 years ago (again it was the Giants).  This was way overdue, and it was overdue that the team came to full dominance on both sides of the ball.  Not to be out-done, Special Teams still had a partial blocked punt in the game, which they continue to shine week after week.  On Offense, quarterback Nick Foles looked better, but still has some fixing to do, as he threw two horrible interceptions, that in a normal game could have been costly.  I say “normal game” because the Eagles Defense absolutely man-handled the Giants Offensive Line, sacking Giants QB Eli Manning 8 times!!  Three of those sacks were recorded by Connor Barwin, and two by Vinny Curry.  The Defense played as great as they could, keeping the entire Giants Offense off-balance the entire game, and it was a great sight to see.  Even at the end of the game, when the Giants desperately did everything they could to get within Field Goal range… even using all three of their timeouts within the last 1:10 of regulation (douche move, Coughlin!!), the Defense was there to complete the shutout, and fully shut the lights out in the Blackout Game Sunday night.  Almost 70,000 fans were out of their minds, except for these two guys.  LOL

It was a great game, with a great ending, in a great stadium, surrounded by the greatest fans in the world.

The Philadelphia Eagles maintained their first place hold on the NFC East by beating the St. Louis Rams at The Linc 34-28.  The Eagles Offense has been outscored by their opponent’s Offense two weeks straight now, but the Eagles Special Teams and Defense are helping to put points up on the board.  The Eagles Offense has been sputtering, partly because of a depleted O-line, but also because of miscues and costly turnovers.  But as many say, a Win is a Win, and the Eagles have chalked up four of them in the first five games of the season.  This week the Eagles play host to the Division rivals New York Giants, a team that has been surging lately, and seems to have found their way in this season.  The game is on Sunday evening, and the world will be watching.  Will the struggling Birds show up again this week, or will the team show that it is learning from the many mistakes, and put together an attack against the Giants on both sides of the ball?  Either way, there will be an amped-up fanbase in attendance, who are already buzzing for this game.  It’s a great and exciting time to be an Eagles fan.  Granted our hearts may not always agree, but this is what it is all about.  We bleed green, and expect nothing short of all out heart from our players and coaches.

This week’s game is why we tune in, why we buy the tickets, why we arrive seven hours early to tailgate.  It’s about the love of a team, and the hard work that represents what the city of Philadelphia was built on.

E-A-G-L-E-S…… EAGLES!!

We are back after a long and unwanted hiatus.  We do want to thank all of you for the messages during our absence, but technically and personally all is well and we are moving forward with the show.

The Philadelphia Eagles are now 3 wins and 1 loss on the season, and that loss against the San Francisco 49ers really shook Eagles fans up.  Despite the team putting up 21 points, none of those points came from our explosive Offense, which fizzled this week.  Quarterback Nick Foles had an off game, throwing two interceptions and missing several receivers.  Our very depleted Offensive Line did not protect Foles, nor were able to open the gates for Shady McCoy or Darren Sproles.  There were dropped passes and two fumbles lost to tie up a poor outing on the day.  Overall they only gained 213 yards of total Offense, of which only 22 yards rushing.  Painful.  One of the few standouts was from Jeremy Maclin, who continues to shine week after week.  The Eagles Defense did well, including a pick-six by Malcolm Jenkins in the second quarter.

Without a doubt, the standout group in the game was the Special Teams unit.  Early in the first quarter the Eagles blocked a 49er punt, which was run back for a touchdown putting the Birds on the scoreboard first in the game.  Then in the second quarter, a 49er punt to Darren Sproles amounted to an 82 yard return for a touchdown.  At that point it put the Eagles on top 21-10, with the promise the Eagles Offense would add much to that total the rest of the game.  That did not happen, and the Offense needs to figure out what went wrong, and how to fix it.  Lane Johnson returning to the lineup will be one of those fixes.

This week the Eagles are hosting the St. Louis Rams who are 1-2 on the season.  There will be a very loud crowd there to greet them at The Linc!
