Well the Philadelphia Eagles lose their 43rd straight game, all hell breaks loose, cats and dogs are living together, and it’s complete anarchy.

Perhaps that’s a bit melodramatic, but it sure feels that way, doesn’t it?  The Eagles lose their eighth straight game, another coach (in Jim Washburn) is fired, and it becomes public that he was a bully and disruptive to the team!  What else is going to happen to this Eagles team before the merciful end of the season happens in a few weeks?

In this show, though, we talk about Bryce Brown’s play, both good and bad.  Todd feels that the Eagles also have to clean house of players as well as coaches, letting go of Vick at the end of the season, and trading Shady McCoy and Desean Jackson.  Chuck doesn’t agree with all of that, and feels that good coaches can instill better play from the talent that’s here, including building leaders.  We try to stay positive, and have several laughs, but it’s obvious that Eagles Nation is depressed at this point.  We’ll move forward though… we’re Eagles fans.

After a few weeks off due to sickness… the flu, not sick of the Eagles… we are back to discuss our favorite, yet hapless, team.

The season is essentially over, there is little doubt left that Andy Reid is coaching his last games as an Eagle, and the fans have given up all hope.  We talk about how this season was the perfect storm against the team; with multiple injuries ruining sections, star players having just horrible years, and poor coaching from the top down.  The Eagles, and owner Jeffrey Lurie, are at a crossroads.  We were asked who would we hire as the new head coach, and we fumble over the answer, as we just get lost in the speculation.

One thing we are very unsure of, with a major change coming, are the Eagles headed into years of mediocre results, or will a new coaching staff be able to ignite the arguably very talented player base into a playoff contender again?  Unfortunately we will have to wait another ten months to find out.  After how this season has transpired, this will be a very long wait… and there are still weeks, and undoubtedly losses, to go in this season.

The Philadelphia Eagles fall to the New Orleans Saints at Lincoln Financial Field, on Monday Night Football, and all but cement this season as a total failure.  Eagles fans’ reactions range from anger to apathy, and many wonder if moves by the Eagles’ upper management shouldn’t be made now instead of at the end of the season.  Speculation is everywhere, yet fans we have to endure the pain of not being able to do a thing but sit and watch a sad display week after week.

This week Chuck flies solo in a short show due to scheduling issues, and next week’s show will be put out on Thursday instead of Tuesday.  I talk a bit about the game, how people can help out the victims of Hurricane Sandy, updates to our iPhone / Android app, and the upcoming Dallas Cowboys game.

It’s all good, Eagles fans, we’ll endure this together, debate the reasons we’re suffering, and still have some bit of hope.

The Philadelphia Eagles and esteemed Head Coach Andy Reid use the BYE week effectively to prepare for the powered Atlanta Falcons.  Unfortunately the Falcons coaching staff prepared as well, and handed the Eagles a 30-17 loss, embarrassing the Eagles at home.  Vick continued to struggle despite not turning the ball over, and appeared after the game as a beaten man.  The beginnings of the rain from Hurricane Sandy began to fall around halftime, and the fans gave up shortly thereafter, as it was obvious to everyone that there was no heart left in the Eagles team that used to give all to overcome anything.  We also partnered with GM’s Driving the Northeast, and they are letting me drive a GMC Terrain Denali for the week.  I took that to the tailgate this Sunday, and everything I brought easily fit, and the ride and technology in the dash made it a lot of fun to drive.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles lose to the Falcons 30-17 at the Linc, and the fans lost heart quickly
  • The Atlanta Falcons are a rhythm Offense, and the Eagles defensive scheme was horrible, with Casey Matthews playing hopelessly
  • Michael Vick is just beaten, and seems to be saying it now
  • Andy Reid seems clueless in what to do next, but he has a huge decision to make; start Vick or Foles against the Saints on Monday Night Football on the road
  • I’m driving the GMC Terrain Denali thanks to the folkds at Driving the Northeast
  • Met up with Carmen Harris and George in the lots before the game… we had hope then!

The annual BYE Week show is upon us, and for the sixth year in a row we are joined byJasonB of Bleeding Green Nation!

What we discussed:

  • Is Andy Reid gone after this season no matter the Eagles season result?
  • Only Jim Johnson should ever have run Jim Johnson’s Defense
  • New Defensive Coordinator, Todd Bowles possibly just needs to tweak the scheme to make a big difference
  • Andy Reid is responsible for every player on this team at this point in his tenure
  • We review the rest of the games for the season, including the upcoming Atlanta Falcons game this week at The Linc

Well the Philadelphia Eagles host the Detroit Lions at Lincoln Financial Field in south Philly.  They give up two 10-point leads during the game, quarterback Michael Vick turns the ball over three more times, and the Eagles lose in overtime 26-23.  The way this season has gone with the caliber of coaching and play, we are not truly surprised by this outcome.  Yet a mere two days later, the Eagles fire Defensive Coordinator Juan Castillo and hire Todd Bowles for the job.  This news set off a firestorm of reaction by fans throughout Eagles Nation, some cheering the decision, and many more saying it still is not enough to patch the leaking holes in this ship.  Many state that Offensive Coordinator Marty Mornhinweg should also be fired, Mike Vick should be benched, and even Andy Reid himself should be sent packing.  It may not be the pacifier Reid was hoping for with this move, but we hope this is one step to a greater change for this team.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles fire Defensive Coordinator Juan Castillo, and more anger than praise is released toward the team
  • Andy Reid is only there because of Jim Johnson and what he accomplished with the Defense
  • The wrong coordinator was fired… it should have been Marty Mornhinweg
  • Reid’s firing of Castillo was a smoke screen!
  • Vick had a look of despair on the sideline at one point in the Lions game after an interception, his mind is not right for this game right now
  • Could the Castillo firing actually be part of a front office plan to get Todd Bowles eventually head coach?
  • Vick is not the leader this team needs
  • Todd Bowles needs to just run the Defense effectively, and be more aggressive

The Philadelphia Eagles march into Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers and Big Ben Roethlisberger, holding to just over 200 yards passing, and the Eagles Defense only allowing 16 total points.  Sounds great, right?  Well unfortunately the Birds Offense struggled again, especially Quarterback Michael Vick, who fumbled the ball three times, losing two of them, allowing him to be the league-worst with eleven turnovers.  Eagles fans are now calling for Vick’s benching, and once again getting increasingly loud in the chant to fire Head Coach Andy Reid for not making the necessary adjustments and erasing the continued bad play.  Although the Eagles are 3-2 on the season, it feels like 0-5, and this team’s repeated mistakes could very well catch up with, and bury, them quickly unless change happens immediately.  This is a team change that must happen, not just a few individuals.

What we discussed:

  • Vick fumbles the ball and the game, away
  • The Defense couldn’t put enough pressure on Roethlesberger
  • the NFL is more of a running league, and the Eagles have one of the best back in McCoy
  • Many Eagles fans in general are absolutely angry
  • We are not as angry, and see 3-2 as a decent start
  • Turnovers have to stop, and the Defense has to get more more pressure, and turnovers

In an emotional and amazing game, the Philadelphia Eagles beat NFC East rivals New York Giants 19-17 in the final minutes of the game.  This leaves the Eagles at 3-1 on the early season, and once again alone at the top of the Division.  The game ended in heart-stopping fashion as Andy Reid tried to ice Giants’ kicker Lawrence Tynes by calling a timeout a split second before the ball was snapped… yet the ball went wide left.  With the entire stadium now watching a second 54-yard attempt, Tynes kicks it away only to drop it short, and handing the Eagles their third win on the year.  Part of what made this game special was beloved former Safety Brian Dawkins was there as the Eagles retired his number, and had a special halftime ceremony for BDawk.  He was an amazing player, always put his heart in every play on that field, and was loved by all Eagles fans.  Guest-hosting this week was Emoney, of Philly Sports Cast fame, and also Steve Brown who stops in to talk about his week-long trip to Philly and his experience at the game.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles win in dramatic fashion at Lincoln Financial Field
  • Offensive play calling completely balanced
  • Brian Dawkins number retirement and amazing halftime tribute
  • The Eagles going 3-1 at this point is a very good thing, and allows for even better things moving forward
  • Special teams coverage was horrible
  • No turnovers!
  • Andy Reid icing the Giants kicker – probably will never be called again
  • Steve Brown from the UK also joined us and talks about his Philly adventures this week

The Philadelphia Eagles fall apart, mostly on the Offensive side of the ball this week, and lose to the Arizona Cardinals, 27-6 on the road.  Many things went wrong, and we pretty much blame quarterback Michael Vick, the Offensive Line, Coach Andy Reid and Coach Marty Mornhinweg.  Alas, the Eagles are now 2-1 on the season, and if they fix the issues plaguing them now, are on a solid track moving forward on the season.  Speaking of moving forward, rival New York Giants drive down the Turnpike and show up at Lincoln Financial Field for some Sunday evening festivities.  The Eagles crowd will surely be there to welcome them with open arms, and mouths.  Also at the game Sunday night will be a tribute to one of the greatest Eagles, Brian Dawkins.  His number will also be retired in a much-deserved ceremony.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles lose to the Arizona Cardinals in embarrassing fashion
  • Michael Vick is again under attack and on the turf often, getting almost no protection from his Offensive line
  • The New York Giants come to down in a rivalry showdown on prime time television
  • Eagles great Brian Dawkins will receive a tribute and the Eagles will retire his number
  • The NFL’s replacement referees are thankfully gone, and the regular refs are back after the dispute with their union is finally settled

Our Philadelphia Eagles play the home opener against the Baltimore Ravens in a slugfest and the Eagles come out on top, banged and bruised, but winners.  This leads the Eagles to be 2-0 on the season, and sitting at the top of the NFC East Division.  We saw the team pick itself up and continue to fight the entire game, despite more turnovers that would have done most other teams in on the day.  To make it even better, the team fought from a deficit in the fourth quarter to take the lead late, and the Defense once again did a phenomenal job to keep the Ravens Offense from scoring.  Unfortunately the Eagles lose center Jason Kelce for the year when he tore is knee’s MCL and partially tore his ACL.  He will surely be missed on the Offense.

Cody Benjamin from Bleed Green joins us this week, and we talk about the Ravens game, coaching efforts, improvements, and the coming Arizona Cardinals game on the road.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles beat the Baltimore Ravens 24-23
  • Michael Vick shows confidence and determination that we didn’t see a lot of when Donovan McNabb was under center
  • Brent Celek had an amazing game, and helped the fans go crazy with acrobatic and enthusiastic display
  • DeMeco Ryans is emerging as the powerhouse leader of the Defense
  • The Eagles Defense looked especially good this week, and the Defensive coaching schemes were great to handle what the Ravens threw at them
  • Coaching all around in this game was impressive… adjustments were key
  • Eagles travel to Arizona to take on a tough Cardinals team

The 2012 NFL and Philadelphia Eagles season kicked off, and the result of a win was what we expected.  The WAY in which they won was not what was expected.  With QB Michael Vick throwing four interceptions, all but one of our Offensive line committing penalties, and a fully unbalanced play scheme, the Eagles barely win against a below average Cleveland Browns.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles beat the Cleveland Browns 17-16
  • There were way too many mistakes in coaching, play calling, and fundamentals
  • DeMeco Ryans played great and is exactly what the Eagles had hoped for
  • Andy Reid recognized that his play-calling should have had more runs
  • Ray Lewis and the Ravens Defense is going to be more than a test for this Eagles Offense
  • This week is all about the coaching
  • Our safeties and cornerbacks did the job they needed to shut down Brandon Weeden

Three preseason games down, and the Philadelphia Eagles win their third.  This time backup quarterback Nick Foles takes the start while Mike Vick gets some rest for his ribs.  Foles continues to do very well, showing great things as a future starter with this organization.  The Eagles beat the Cleveland Browns 27-10 under his leadership.  We talked about how Vick needs to protect himself during this season and not put himself out there on every play if there are huge risks.  He has to throw the ball away or slide (feet first, of course.)  What we want overall, besides a safe quarterback, is a controlled and balanced Offense this year.  With the caliber of running backs we have, this Offense could be deadly if balanced correctly.

Our guest this week is EFC contributor Holden Fulco, and he brings up an former Eagles player who is also not doing well, in the name of Kevin Kolb.  The conversation then shifts to what the organization sees that we as fans do not, and most of the time the players that leave the Eagles do not thrive.

The Eagles organization had both good news and sad this week, with the sad being we learned of the death of legend Steve Van Buren.  Any Eagles history book has to mention him, and his accomplishments are still talked about to this day.

On the positive side, modern favorite Brian Westbrook announced that he would retire an Eagle.  Still amazes me as to how lucky I have been to have watched him live on that field so many times.  An amazing player and great person.  I’m glad he is retiring with us.

Two games into preseason, and two games our starting quarterback Michael Vick leaves with an injury.  This time it looked just as scary as the first week, and lucky for him (and fans), all scans come up negative for broken ribs or cartilage.  Backup rookie quarterback Nick Foles once again impresses and takes control of the Offense for three and a half quarters, leading the Philadelphia Eagles over the New England Patriots 27-17 on Monday Night Football.  We expect Foles to pretty much get the remainder of the preseason playing time so Vick can rest his sore ribs and pretty much not get killed before the start of the regular season, plus Kafka is still going to be out until Week 1 or so.  This is fine with Eagles fans, as right now we cannot get enough of seeing the future leader get as much NFL experience as possible.

Others that impressed us in the game were Mychal Kendricks, Bryce Brown, Phillip Hunt, and Brandon Boykin.  Those who did not impress were the replacement refs -shudder-.  Obviously it’s preseason, so we’re not going to see too much from the Offense or Defense regarding specialty plays, yet we do expect the team to improve in terms of discipline and basic mechanics.

We had an email from Herbert in Philly, and a few voicemails from Ross in DC… remember, voicemail records for only three minutes!  LOL  Thanks for the feedback, you guys are great.  A special thanks to Steve Brown who stayed up very late to hang with us this week.  Good on ya!

We are back after an extended Summer break, and we couldn’t be more excited for the new Eagles season!  We catch up a bit, welcome in guest co-host Ryan Mains, and discuss what has been going on with the midnight green and silver.  As is typically the case as Training Camp winds down and we have our first pre-season game at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team shakes off some of the rust.  We saw some exciting play from Boykin and Foles, some sloppy Defensive tackling, Kafka out for a few weeks with a broken hand and the end of Training Camp.  The second pre-season game is on the road on Monday night against the New England Patriots.

No matter how the game went, and we believe we saw more good than bad… it’s the start of the 2012 Philadelphia Eagles season.  There are high expectations for this team again this year, and we have a lot to look forward to.

Something that is a must-read for every Eagles fan is the “Bleed Green’s 2012 Eagles Preview” put together by Cody Benjamin of Bleed Green.  There are a ton of contributors in this including Les BowenTim McManusJason BrewerJeff Warner, Chuck Stanley (of EaglesFanCast, of course), Cody Benjamin, and more.  The magazine is available in both print and digital editions.  I highly recommend this!

The NFL Draft 2012 is now in the history books.  We are back with the scouting guru Tommy Lawlor to work through everything our Philadelphia Eagles did during the Draft weekend.  The Eagles went after the players they targeted, moving around in the order to get them.  We discuss how this all came about, and was each one worth it?  Overall things looked good for the team and if the new additions can make a difference this coming season, then the Eagles are an improved team overall.

Round 2 – LB Mychal Kendricks – Cal, 5-11, 240 pounds
Round 2 – DE Vinny Curry – Marshall, 6-3, 266  pounds
Round 3 – QB Nick Foles – Arizona, 6-5, 243  pounds
Round 4 – CB/RS Brandon Boykin – Georgia, 5-9, 183 pounds
Round 5 – OT Dennis Kelly – Purdue, 6-8, 321 pounds

The NFL Draft 2012 is a week away, and as in previous years we have it covered thanks to a great friend in Tommy Lawlor.  Tommy helps us weed through all of the speculations, rumors and anxious fan concerns leading up to this year’s Eagles Draft.  We discuss the year’s draft class, what the Eagles need, try to understand what Andy Reid might be thinking, and the overall approach the Eagles will take to address the needs of the team for the near future as well as the positions to be addressed a few seasons from now.  It is never easy to decipher the extremely complicated plans that all of the teams have, but there are only a few days for them to put them together and execute starting next Thursday evening.  The 2012 Eagles season may be influenced in a huge way by this Draft.
