The Philadelphia Eagles pull together behind a stellar performance from backup (!?) quarterback Kevin Kolb and beat the Atlanta Falcons in Lincoln Financial Field, 31-17.  The day was warm, the sun was shining, and the Eagles had a 21-0 lead before the Falcons scored. Special Teams, Defense and Offensive Line all had a great day, and allowed Kolb to work his magic, while stopping the Falcons repeatedly. Unfortunately the day was not perfect, as we witnessed star receiver DeSean Jackson go out with a severe concussion after a terrifying hit, and ol’ reliable kicker David Akers miss three field goals.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles beat the Falcons in Philadelphia and travel next week to play the Tennessee Titans
  • WR Desean Jackson’s concussion and hit, plus we talk about other hard hits in the NFL this week
  • Kevin Kolb was phenomenal this week, completing 23 of 29 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns
  • The Defense stepped up, with King Dunlap making an remarkable turnaround from last week
  • Trent Cole was a monster, and Stewart Bradley looks like he’s improving as well
  • Tailgating this week was a lot of fun, with UK Steve visiting Philly on a sports tour that is becoming legendary, and Jason from Bleeding Green Nation hung with us as well.
  • We got to meet The Commissioner of Tailgating, Joe Cahn and talk with him about his tailgating adventures
  • EFC Fantasy Football updates wrap up the show along with an email from Dennis in Gettysburg and a couple of voicemails

The Philadelphia Eagles stay tied atop the NFC East with a win over the hapless San Francisco 49ers. Quarterback Kevin Kolb, playing for the injured Michael Vick, played with confidence behind an Offensive Line that sustained even more losses to injury. Speaking of injury, running back Lesean "Shady" McCoy started with a broken rib and contributed 138 total yards with a touchdown. Andy Reid had even more questionable coaching decisions that make us scratch our heads and the Eagles secondary fell asleep in the fourth quarter of the game, almost allowing the 49ers to build a comeback. Regardless of the negatives, the Eagles are now 3-2 on the season, and host the Atlanta Falcons this coming week in Philadelphia.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles win over the San Francisco 49ers 27-24
  • DT Brodrick Bunkley out for the season with elbow ligament damage, but there are now conflicting reports
  • LT Jason Peters injured his knee and may have an MRI on it
  • King Dunlap was horrible, and needs to find a way to stop the pass rushers
  • Kevin Kolb looked comfortable and more confident, scanning his receivers before unloading his passes
  • Shady McCoy is just an incredible talent
  • The Dallas Cowboys lost again, and the NFC East giggled
  • The Eagles have a lot of work to do on the O-line and D-lines, especially this week against the Falcons

In what amounted to a disaster of a game, the Philadelphia Eagles lose at home to the Washington Redskins. Donovan McNabb’s homecoming was not what anyone predicted, with more Eagles players going down with concussions and broken bones, more poor officiating, some laughable coaching and penalties all adding up to a poor Eagles showing in front of a worldwide audience. McNabb performed badly, but it was the Redskins running game that won the game. Eagles latest starting quarterback, Michael Vick, went down with a rib cartilage injury, and Kevin Kolb came in off the bench. In what was arguably the game-losing moments, Head Coach Andy Reid flubbed clock management and play calling before the half, which resulted in a Field Goal instead of a potential touchdown. Reid’s ultimate explanation for the decisions was, “I goofed.”

What we discussed:

  • We start off with addressing Andy Reid’s debacle of clock management… “I goofed”
  • We take a look at the next couple of weeks in the schedule
  • The injuries continue to add up for the team
  • Our expectations of the team as this being a rebuilding year are now back in line
  • We talk about the tailgate this week with Todd flying in and also listener Brian from Colorado came and hung out with us
  • Wrap up with some EFC Fantasy Football talk
