The Philadelphia Eagles play their third preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on a rainy night in Philly, leaving only one game before the welcome start of the regular season. The big news, though, is the new contract that the Eagles and quarterback Michael Vick agreed to yesterday. Although the details vary, essentially it is a 6-year $100 million deal with almost $40 million guaranteed for our starting QB. We talk about what that means to DeSean Jackson’s contract extension that both he and the fans want. Either way, we will see Vick leading the Offense in midnight green for years to come. What we discussed:

The first Philadelphia Eagles 2011 preseason game is in the can. The Eagles beat the visiting Baltimore Ravens, with the green and silver offensive starters only playing for one series. It’s not easy to get excited about preseason football, but it IS football, and the Eagles have become one of the most exciting teams to talk about since the lockout ended. With so many new acquisitions, signings and trades, there are high hopes and we were all waiting to see this team take the field. Obviously not much can be garnered from very little play, but what we saw was impressive. Quarterback Michael Vick looked accurate and quick, taking the team down the field for a touchdown on the first drive. The new Defense under new Defensive Coordinator Juan Castillo looked fast, and it was welcome to see them swarming the Ravens quarterbacks on almost every play. Even questions about our rookie kicker and punter seemed to be satisfied. But again, it is preseason, and only the first of four at that. Some of those players on the field in the later quarters will not be on the team in just a few short weeks. There is also the concern about Jeremy Maclin’s mystery illness, as well as Mike Patterson’s skull blood vessel complications to see work out. The Eagles management has shown us that they had a plan for the offseason, and are still in the process of executing that plan. The next few weeks will see some adjustments to the team, and we will soon see what the new Eagles will become. Next week they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers for the second preseason game, and we expect to see the starters play almost the whole first half. We try to address what the Philadelphia Eagles have done in free agency and trades over the past week, but it’s almost impossible within an hour’s time. All we know for sure is that the Eagles have become more aggressive this off-season since the lockout ended than in any other year that we can remember, surely the most under current management. We have to say, along with most other Eagles fans, that we are very excited for this season. Although there are still concerns, such as the linebacker and kicker positions, the Eagles are a better team over last year at most positions. What we discussed:
